Tjak Box
Tjak Box, a joint performance by the Destiny Arts Youth Performance Company and Gamelan Sekar Jaya, brought together hip-hop, Balinese dance, and live gamelan music. The production, born of a collaboration between Rashidi Omari and Emiko Saraswati Susilo (Gamelan Sekar Jaya) was inspired by the story of Kunti and Karna from the Mahabarata, the great Hindu epic. Tjak Box explores the connections between this ancient tale and the life of youth in Oakland.
